The jail was built in 1818 and survived the burning of Chambersburg by the Confederacy in 1864. The building, the oldest in Chambersburg, is of Georgian design and was placed on the State and National Regiister of Historic Sites in 1970. Guided tours are available.

The Franklin County Historical Society – Kittochtinny has been the county’s historical society since 1898. Featuring tours of the Old Jail, John Brown House, Brown’s Mill School and St. Thomas Toll House. You will find so much history here in Franklin County, PA.
